Senior Internship

Flamingo Magazine

For my senior internship, I was given the opportunity to work as an editorial intern with Flamingo magazine, Florida’s only statewide lifestyle magazine. Spring 2021 was an extra special time to intern at the magazine, since it marked the 5-year anniversary of Flamingo’s first issue. During the course of this internship, I completed many administrative tasks and even got the opportunity to have a hand in some of the published content. The administrative tasks that I worked on included transcribing interviews; lots of copy-editing, fact-checking and proofreading; reaching out to various sources for photo content; cataloguing subscriber and source information; and taping (and re-taping) all the pages of the magazine on a wall of the office in order to see what they looked like all together.  Aside from all of these, every other week I put together a list of upcoming events across the state for the email newsletter and worked on writeups for each event. I also got the opportunity to write two pieces that were published on the magazine's website. Aside from the specific tasks and writing assignments, throughout the internship I was able to learn and expand upon my writing style, as well as get a feel for how a magazine operates behind the scenes.
